University Convocation Procession All staff and faculty are invited to participate in the procession that begins University Convocation. We encourage everyone to wear regalia, but it is optional.

A traditional symbol of authority, the University Mace was created for the inauguration of Samuel H. Smith as the eighth president of WSU in 1986.

The mace is traditionally carried by the chair of the Faculty Senate during the procession of faculty members and graduating students at commencement and during the faculty and staff procession at convocation. The two-foot long, nine-pound scepter, designed by Tim Doebler of WSU's Fine Arts Department, is cast in silver and bronze and features a globe atop a laurel branch.

Convocation (AHS only) Sunday, May 12, 2019, at 9:00 am at the State Farm Center. Students should arrive no later than 8:00 am. Report to the East Tunnel of the State Farm Center to check in (enter off of Fourth Street) for the procession.

It is important that you arrive on time. Motion challenged graduates should go to the east entrance of the State Farm Center, an usher will direct you to the nearest elevator to join the group for the procession. Graduates with disabilities who require special assistance to fully participate in the AHS Convocation ceremony should email Don Hardin at or call 217-649-4810, prior to the ceremony to make necessary arrangements. We will have a representative of AHS stationed at the east entrance of the State Farm Center (off of Fourth Street) to assist you in joining the procession.
