Hope I haven't given you a headache. >> Edited by gunsynd, 29 April 2012 - 04:39 AM. @gunsynd The only way I know to launch Skyrim steamless is a cracked version because all Steam games load 3 DLLs at startup: steam.dll steamclient.dll steamapps Common Skyrim steam_api.dll (for Skyrim, otherwise the ones in the specifig game directories) One of these DLLs checks whether Steam is running and if not starts Steam. In the cracked versions the binaries and DLLs are recoded. (SKiDROW cracks don't load steam.dll and use self-written steamclient.dll and steam_api.dll) So if you would like to run Skyrim steamless you would need to use recoded binaries or DLLs and that's pretty much what cracking is. I personally like Steam because it updates your games and so on and it's compared to other copy protections very user friendly, but I can understand why people don't like to use it because the client sucks and with low bandwidth it's also not funny.

If you simply don't want to use Steam because Skyrim is your only game and you use Semi Fullscreen, I have a hotfix available. Since this technique can also be used by viruses, some badly-written virus scanners assume that any program doing it is a virus. Adding an exception to your scanner's rules may be necessary.

It is nice to see others having your problems but I want to add, that the virus scanner does not need to be badly-written because it is impossible to write a perfect virus scanner and all the warnings are suspisions.
